We had such a lovely Birthday party for sweet L. I knew I wanted a Winter Wonderland theme with her birthday being so close to Christmas. Plus we don’t really get a Winter here in Florida, so I wanted it to be special, fun, festive and bring winter here to the sunshine state. I was inspired by snowflakes and silver with cool blues, mints, and mauves. I wanted it to have a wintery, icy feel.
I loved getting creative with the food and naming them things like “muddy snowballs” for the meatballs, “Ice chips” for the chips and dip and “snowflakes” for the popcorn. I made all of the party crafts myself out of card stock and I made the serving platters out of antique silver trays glued atop crystal candle holders.

Cake: I wanted to make a healthy cake and since we mostly follow the Paleo diet, I made a Paleo smash cake that was so good.

Cake Time! I made L a Paleo coconut vanilla cake with coconut and maple butter frosting. It was soooooo good, and she loved it.
A lot of L’s little friends came to help celebrate her turning one!
We had such a great time! And I am still in shock that my baby is 1!!!
When we found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted the nursery to have a little bit of an African theme with lots of cute giraffes, elephants, rhinos, etc.. I came across the cutest paper mache giraffe from Anthropologie, and wanted it to hang on the wall of the nursery. I showed it to Ryan, who then proceeded to tell me that he could make one out of paper mache and any other animal I wanted. Whaaaa? Who knew he had a little crafty side that he had been hiding from me. He started with a rhino head and built it out to look pretty realistic! I purchased a French book and we mod-podged the torn pages onto the rhino to look like skin, and then I painted it. It’s pretty awesome. We named her Phyllis. Ryan is already getting started on a giraffe and an elephant. I foresee paper-mache animal heads taking over our home in the future.
YAY for the weekend. It is currently blue skies and sunny here, but sooooo HOT! We may try to take a beach trip tomorrow for part of the day. What are your weekend plans?

Hello dear friends, I cannot believe that an entire year has gone by since I first started Sass and Pepper. I started this blog with the intention to share things that I love, share recipes that are healthy and allergy free, and overall just share life with all of you. It was a little bit of a rough start because I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing, and I still don’t, but I think that over the year this little blog has kind of taken on a form of its own and has become a home to me.
I am so glad that I have a place to come back to relive all of the memories of the last year and I am so thankful to all of you for reading and sharing them with me. I welcome, and would love, any suggestions on how to make this blog better. Let me know the things you hate or love or want more of, because your opinions matter to me.
Here are some of my favorite posts, memories, from the last year:
* Manaus, Brazil.
* Austria & Germany by train.
* Soul Surfer.
* New Venture.
* 31 things I love about him.
* A Valentines Weekend.
Here’s to many more years of Sass and Pepper!
Thank you for reading.
This past weekend feels like a blur. I worked all day Saturday, and woke up Sunday to celebrate my brother’s 20th birthday, had a hot yoga session, ate gluten-free pizza and caught up on some laundry. Today I plan on taking it easy before heading back up to Winston-Salem this evening. I hope that your weekend was filled with something exciting.
Currently loving this video featuring 3 guys, 44 days, and 11 countries. It is pretty neat. Check out the other two videos from their trip.

For as long as I can remember I have been saying I needed to get a voice-over demo recorded so that I can book more vo jobs. I even added it on my list of things to do before turning 30, giving myself a deadline. I am happy to announce that I can now cross that off of my list. I not only recorded a demo, but had a website made, and headshots done. My new site is up and demos are being printed as I type. I am super excited about this new and exciting little venture in my life.
I hired the lovely and talented Sabina of Design Garden to design my website. She did a fantastic job at expressing who I am throughout the site, giving it a personal touch. I am just so happy with how it turned out. Go have a look and tell me what you think.
It has been raining every single day for the past week here in central Florida. Everything is looking a lot greener. The air smells so clean and cool and there are puddles in every direction. It has actually been rather soothing, though I am hoping for a warm and sunny holiday come this weekend. I could go for a dance in the rain right about now, you?

My good friends Bri Bunton and Byron Rowland just launched an online store called Threadcase. They have super cute clothes at great prices. I had the privilege of modeling some of the beautiful clothing for their new site. My good friend of KC Russell Photography took the pictures and she did a lovely job, as always. So go check out Threadcase.com and get 15% off of your first order before May 21.
